Punkpurim

Overheard this conversation last night at the most crowded party I have ever been to:

A: Hi, they are giving out free Hamantashens.
B: What`s Hamantashens?
A: Its Haman`s ears.
B: Who the f*** is Haman?

Loved it.

Great Jewish weekend in London, Punk Purim in the East-end, the Eretz Israel exhibition at the Proud gallery in Camaden, and Radio Gagarin in Notting Hill, alternative Jewish scene, Not in Hendon/West Hampstead!
A new funky kinda Jew Do
What`s Next???

  1. What is really sad and pathetic is when you hear this coversation between two people who have each spent 13 f**king years at a Jewish school and come out more ignorant than they entered.

My grandparents were members of the original Yiddish renegade Jewish community who at least knew what they were rebelling against. They grew up in a fundamentalist Jewish community in Poland with people who, amongst other things, told my grandfather's mother that the reason her 8-year-old daughter died of pneumonia was because she had not kept Shabbat properly... So I totally understand why they were so anti-religious.

And I can understand why many secular Israelis are anti-religious. They get a modern-day version of the same sh*t my grandparents went through. So they totally reject the torah but at least they know who the f*ck Haman is.

Whereas nowadays you get the suburban conservative and dull Jews who know nothing about Judaism and care less but spend a f*cking fortune to live in the right areas and send their kid to a Jewish school so they will meet the right people and marry in the right families and grow up not knowing or caring who the f*ck Haman was.

At least in Australia. Maybe it's different in the UK. But somehow I doubt it.
